Hampton University’s Young Diplomats Summer Program provides a stimulating and enriching residential experience for rising 10th-12th grade high school students on the beautiful campus of Hampton University. Participants will choose academic tracks in African Language and Culture, Leadership Development, African Diplomacy, Economic Development and Global Affairs to learn how the United States and Africa respond to humanitarian issues and thereby emerge with a greater understanding of how societies help people. Students will also have an opportunity to choose their preference of recreational activities such as, horseback riding, sailing, soccer, or tennis.
The weeklong residential experience will be enriched by a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit sites such as the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, U.S. Department of State, and the Martin Luther King Monument. A group of renowned political and community leaders will to inspire the YDP participants to make a difference in their communities. In addition to exposure to the aforementioned activities, the Young Diplomats will practice Robert’s Rules of Order and the art of debate and learn dining and social etiquette to effect change in both formal and informal settings. They will receive instruction in ballroom dancing. All participants will have an opportunity to display their creative movements at the closing luncheon.
